PHOTOMONTH 09 is a photographic feast. Discover over 150 exhibitions and events in more than 85 galleries and spaces across East London and the City. Major artists exhibiting this year include Eugene Richards, Jim Goldberg, Jenny Matthews, Nadav Kander, Terry O’Neill, Tom Hunter and Sophie Calle, with many exciting emerging artists who have chosen to show in a wide variety of interesting venues from the Crypt at Christ Church to Lennie’s Snack Bar. photomonth is the only photography festival in London and the largest in the UK.

PHOTOMONTH OPENING Thursday 1 October 6pm-9pm

photomonth opens with an evocative exhibition of images of an East End childhood by Paul Trevor from 1970s, 80s and into the 90s. At the opening photomonth will launch it’s new Youth Photography Award, sponsored by the World Photography Organisation.

Spitalfields Traders Market, Brushfield Street. E1 6AA (Liverpool Street tube) Admission Free.
Photographers selling their prints; galleries including The Photographers Gallery, Cynthia Corbett Gallery and Rocket; magazines, books, products and services; the photo-bus and a photo-bar. A great opportunity to buy prints at very reasonable prices from emerging artists and play Pass the Parcel with Photobox for fantastic prizes.

PHOTOMONTH LECTURE Thursday 12 November 7pm

Mark Neville delivers this year’s lecture. He is best known for his Port Glasgow Book Project where he produced a coffee table book of social documentary style images which he then delivered free to all 8,000 homes in the Port.

The Photomonth Photofair started out as a small affair in 2008 but this year, due to popular demand, the event is spreading across the Spitalfields Traders Market with stands and stalls run by photographers selling prints, galleries representing photographers, publishers, products and services, and a photo-bar on the photo-bus.
